About this document

This calculation and design note carries the hydraulic basis of an EPIC installation: what the supply has to deliver, what the pipework can carry away, what the profile holds, and what the first charge costs in water and programme time.

It is written for engineers, consultants and specifiers, and sits alongside the Technical Series: the Design Manual carries the full derivation, the Construction Specification the hold points and the Operations & Maintenance volume the operating cycle. The note opens with its scope, the conversion factors used throughout and guidance on reading units before comparing figures from different sources.

Four chapters follow, each with worked examples: water delivery and inlet balancing, drainage capacity and the storm check, what the profile holds and how long it lasts when supply stops, and system charging as an item on the construction programme, with a charging record pro forma. A two-page quick reference collects the governing values, and an annex reproduces three EPIC standard drawings: the cell section, the system plan and the recirculation reservoir tank.
